CKAN Sprint
Lead by
James Gardner
Location
CC1.6
Description
The Open Knowledge Foundation have a product called CKAN which is an open source data catalog written in Python which powers websites all around the world, including on data.gov.uk.
The two core themes for the sprint are:
- Improving data hosting features (we have some code that scraperwiki share with us too)
- Documenting geospatial features such as the ability to show data on maps and search by location
Any improvements we finish will be deployed on thedatahub.org (the CKAN instance we run for the public with over 2000 data packages already).
Other Ideas
Other ideas for the sprint include:
- adding a popular packages list to the homepage
- adding information about apps or reports that build on the data to the package information
Our full list of tickets can be found here if you want to sprint on other things. CKAN has an extension architecture and good documentation.
